/inbox and is the page the desk lands on after you sign in. Conversations update live: new messages, status changes, assignments and AI replies appear without a reload.
The conversation list
The list shows every conversation on your desk, newest activity first. Each row has the customer, their latest message, and these columns:
Click a column header to sort by it, and again to reverse. The Columns button at the end of the filter row hides or shows every column except Person; your choice is remembered in this browser. The list shows 25 rows per page, with page buttons under it.
A row in bold has a customer message nobody on the team has read yet. The browser tab title counts those conversations, for example
(3) Jun.
Views and filters
The tabs across the top filter by status: All, Open, Pending and Resolved, each with its count. The inbox opens on Open. Snoozed conversations appear under All. Next to the tabs you can narrow the list further. The filters combine, and the tab counts follow them.
Picking a rating while you’re on Open switches to All, because rated conversations are resolved ones. Links from the Dashboard’s Top topics open the inbox already filtered by that topic, on All.
The Search conversations… box filters the loaded list as you type. Every word must appear in the customer’s name or email, the latest message, the topic or a tag. It searches the list the server returned for your filters (the 100 most recent matching conversations), not your whole history. To find any conversation by name, use the command palette.
A conversation
Click a row, or pressEnter on it, to open the conversation in a panel that slides in over the list. Each conversation has its own address, /w/<workspace>/inbox/<id>, so you can bookmark or share it. Press Esc or the ✕ to close it; focus goes back to its row.
The header shows:
- The customer’s name, a ✓ if verified, their rating badge and an Intent badge if the chat came from your app with an intent.
- Live (or Connecting… / Reconnecting…), when it started, its topic and the customer’s email.
- An Assignee menu (Unassigned or any teammate). See Assignment.
- A Status menu: Open, Pending, Snoozed, Resolved.
- Resolve, while it isn’t resolved.
- Create issue, to file a GitHub or Linear issue. It’s disabled until an admin connects a tracker; a Set up link then takes you to the settings. See Issues.
The thread
Messages from the customer are on one side, the team’s and the AI’s on the other. Each message shows who wrote it: the customer’s label, AI assistant, You, or the teammate’s name.- Notes (internal messages) are marked Note; internal system notes carry Note · only your team sees this. The customer and the AI never see them. See Notes and replies.
- System notes record what happened:
<name> took over from the AI.,Handed off to the team. Reason: …with the AI’s brief,Assigned to <name> automatically (round robin).,The customer left their email for a reply: …,The customer rated this conversation 👍 Good, andIssue created: …. - AI answers stream in as the AI writes them, so you can watch a reply form. When the AI called actions while answering, a fold under its reply says N tool calls (and · N failed if any did). Open it to see each call’s name, its input, and its result or error, with the HTTP status, how long it took, when it ran and the config version.
- Seen appears under the last of your team’s messages the customer has read.
- When the customer is typing, you see a typing bubble. They see yours too while you write a reply (not while you write a note).
- A message that failed to send shows the error with Retry.
The side panel
The panel next to the thread has four parts. Customer. Their name, email, user ID and any attributes your site sent with a verified identity, and when they were first seen. For an anonymous visitor it reads Anonymous visitor. Add a name or email if they tell you. and has an Edit button for name and email. Details of a verified customer come from your app and can’t be edited here. When there’s an email, Reply by email opens your own mail client with the subjectRe: your chat with us: the desk doesn’t send email itself. Other conversations (N) lists this customer’s other chats with their status and date.
AI actions. Every action the AI called in this conversation, with input, result, status and timing. Secrets are masked. See Actions.
Browser. The page they were on, their browser and OS, screen size, language and time zone.
What happened. A timeline of what the widget recorded in their browser: pages visited, failed requests (method, URL, status, duration), JavaScript errors with stack traces, errors your app reported, rage clicks, and Stuck (they stayed on a page after something failed without a successful submit). Tick Errors only to hide the rest. Emails, tokens and query values are masked, and request bodies are never captured. See Debug context.
If the visitor never wrote from a page with the widget, the panel says there are no browser details.
Working with the AI
While the AI is answering a conversation, a banner over the thread says:🤖 The AI assistant is answering this conversation. Replying yourself takes it over. You have two ways to take over:
- Reply. Sending a reply (not a note) takes the conversation from the AI. An internal note records
<your name> took over from the AI.The AI stops answering this conversation. - Take over. The button in the banner does the same without sending anything, so you can read first.
Notes never take a conversation from the AI. You can write a note to a teammate while the AI keeps answering.
Statuses and resolving
Press Resolve in the header (or
e) to resolve a conversation. When the customer writes again in a resolved or snoozed conversation, it goes back to Open by itself.
Ratings (CSAT)
When a conversation is resolved and the team or the AI replied in it, the widget asks the customer How did we do? with 👍 and 👎. After a thumb they can add an optional comment (up to 1,000 characters) or skip.- They can rate once each time the conversation is resolved. If they write again, it reopens; the next time it’s resolved, they can rate again.
- Your team gets an internal note with the rating and the comment.
- The latest rating shows as a badge in the list and the header, and the Rating filter finds them.
- Ratings feed the CSAT number and the Ratings section on the Dashboard.
Files and screenshots
Attach files to a reply with the paperclip (Attach files) in the composer. Each file can be up to 10 MB and a message can carry up to 10 files. PNG, JPEG, GIF and WebP images show inline; every other type downloads instead of opening in the browser, so an uploaded HTML or SVG file can’t run on your desk’s address. Customers attach files the same way from the widget, and in browsers that support screen capture they can Take a screenshot. They see the screenshot before it’s sent. Images in a conversation can be added to a GitHub or Linear issue. See Issues.Email for visitors who might leave
The desk doesn’t send email, but it can collect an address so you can reply from your own mail client. In a conversation your team is handling, the widget asks an anonymous visitor without an email Get the reply by email? when:- your team is outside business hours (We’re away right now.),
- nobody on the team has the desk open (Nobody’s online right now.), or
- a minute has passed since their message with no reply (Sorry for the wait.).
The customer left their email for a reply: …. Verified customers aren’t asked: their email comes from your app.
